The basics

Bookplate is a personal reading tracker with optional social features. By accessing or using Bookplate in any way — as a guest, with an account, or through any of its features — you agree to these terms, the Privacy Policy, and, for the social features, the Community Guidelines. This agreement does not depend on tapping any particular button; using the service is acceptance. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

You may use Bookplate for personal, non-commercial reading tracking.
You're responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in secure.
You must be at least 13 to create an account.
The service is provided as-is, without warranties; we work hard to keep your data safe (and give you export tools), but you should keep backups of anything you can't afford to lose.
We may change or discontinue features. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app (Account sheet → “Delete my account…”); we may suspend accounts that violate these terms or the Community Guidelines.

Your content

Your library, notes, reviews, comments, and designs are yours. By publishing reviews or comments, or sharing your Reading Home, you give Bookplate permission to display that content to other users within the app. Deleting your account removes your published content as described in the Privacy Policy.

Copyright & book metadata

For books you add via search or barcode scan, titles, author names, subjects, ratings, and cover images shown in the app come from Open Library (an Internet Archive open-data project) and Apple's iTunes Search API, and are displayed to identify books — they remain the property of their respective rights holders. Titles and authors you type in by hand are your own entries, not supplied by those services.
Cover images are loaded from Open Library's cover service and are not stored by Bookplate.
Don't post content you don't have the right to share — including pasting substantial copyrighted text (for example, passages from books) into reviews, comments, or notes you publish.
If you are a rights holder and believe content in Bookplate infringes your copyright, email bookplateapp@gmail.com with the details and we will review and remove infringing material promptly.

AI transparency & personalization

Plainly: Bookplate currently uses no artificial intelligence.

Recommendations, auto-tagging (fiction/non-fiction, light/medium/serious), the “What should I read next?” picker, and the reading-personality summary are simple rules computed from your own library — page counts, subjects, your ratings — either on your device or from the open metadata sources above.
Nothing you write or read is sent to any AI or machine-learning service.
If AI features are ever added, they will be clearly labeled in the app, this section will be updated first, and the Privacy Policy will say exactly what data is involved.

Cosmetics & purchases

Bookplate may offer optional cosmetic items (like shelf decoration packs). Cosmetics are decorative only and never affect your reading data. Real-money purchases are not yet enabled; if and when they are: purchases will be clearly priced before you buy, are licenses to use the cosmetic within Bookplate (not property), have no cash value, and are non-refundable except where the law requires refunds. Deleting your account forfeits cosmetics.

Affiliate disclosure

Bookplate currently contains no affiliate links and earns nothing when you follow links out of the app. Outbound links (for example to Open Library or Goodreads search) are plain links provided for convenience. If affiliate links are ever added, they will be clearly marked as such where they appear, and this section will be updated first.
